The Université Laval campus covers an area 1.9 km2 in size, 56% of which is woods, grassy areas, and sportsfields.

Under its management plan for the protection and promotion of the environment on campus, Université Laval has implemented programs dealing with air quality, design and maintenance of bike paths, regulated garbage management, overall wooded and green space development, upkeep of the woods, and improvement of the trail network.

The plan also aims to encourage the university community to take advantage of the surrounding natural setting and increase awareness of the value of protecting and promoting the environment on campus.

Some 67 species of deciduous and coniferous trees found have been listed in the 16 wooded areas, 8 plantations, and 12 parks on the Université Laval campus.

These areas are also home to over 60 bird and some 15 animal species of all kinds&emdash;some permanent residents, and others just passing through!
