The Progression of Crossing Canada

Almost everyday, Lion Jean Bouchard on his tandem-bike and his accompanists must travel 100 to 160 km. They will travel through eight provinces and stop in about 60 cities throughout Canada.

May 29th 2003, an activity that will serve as a prelude to the project is organized in Quebec City before the group travels in a motorized vehicule to Victoria. June 8th 2003, Lion Jean Bouchard will start his 7,000 km journey. The journey across Canada (Victoria to Halifax) will take approximately three months.

In every city where they will raise funds, the group will be in close contact with the City Hall council, the local Lions Clubs and cyclist clubs. Hundreds of volunteers coming from different places, living with or without disabilities and who have already participated in similar events, will collaborate closely in this Canadian fund-raising.

At the City Halls, members of the Motor Adaptation Foundation will explain to the city council, the population and journalists the objectives of Crossing Canada on a tandem and of the 21st Rehabilitation International World Congress. This meeting will allow solicitation for financial contributions from everyone. Therefore, the population and the businesses will all be approached.

With the Lions Clubs and local cyclist clubs, Lion Jean Bouchard will make a tour of the town on a tandem to encourage people to live actively and to ask them for their financial support. The money collected will allow delegates from developing countries and living with physical disabilities to come to the 21st Rehabilitation International World Congress in 2008, which will be held in Quebec City.
