For the 21st Rehabilitation International World Congress, we (members of the Motor Adaptation Foundation) propose as the main topic:


People with Disabilities: The Roles of Society and the State.

We further propose the following sub-topics:

  1. Disabled people and the importance of their role in the rehabilitation process.
     

  2. Family with a disabled family member: strategy for providing essential services to maximize the physical, mental and social well-being of all.

  3. The role of governments in encouraging and developing new programs to promote the independence of people with disabilities.

  4. Government support for organizations working with people with disabilities.

  5. Access to services and adaptive technologies for people with disabilities.

  6. Access to economic and social development programs with minimum use standards: creation of high tech and efficient communications infrastructures.

  7. Maximization of goal attainment by promoting coordination among agencies acting on behalf of people with disabilities.

  8. Rehabilitation in the community as an affordable, viable alternative.

  9. Programs in all countries to promote the reduction and prevention of situations that may inconvenience or incapacitate people with disabilities.

  10. Volunteers: current roles and future outlook.

  11. The impact of media on the social inclusion of people with disabilities.

  12. Sports for all and leisure and cultural activities as a way of including people with disabilities.
