The School of Pharmacy was founded in 1924 and officially became a faculty of the university in 1997. The Faculty now offers ten graduate and undergraduate programs. In September 2011, the Faculty of Pharmacy began offering a four-year professional degree designed to develop the competencies needed to work as a pharmacist.

These competencies are based on the following four core professional competencies of pharmacists:

  • Initiate, monitor, assess, or adjust drug therapy, either with or without a prescription, based on the patient’s needs

  • Disseminate, share, and develop knowledge by providing advice, information, opinion, training, education, and research

  • Oversee and carry out the selection, preparation, sale and distribution of drugs and other therapeutic products and ensure their availability and storage

  • Manage the resources necessary for pharmacy practice

Université Laval also offers a Master’s of Hospital Pharmacy, a Graduate Diploma in Community Pharmacy, and various short programs designed for practicing pharmacists as well as research-focused master’s and Ph.D. programs in such areas as pharmacogenetics, pharmacokinetics, molecular pharmacology, and pharmaco-epidemiology.

The Faculty of Pharmacy gives students the opportunity to study abroad through the international student mobility program.
