Université Laval promotes responsible travel to campus by encouraging members of the university community to choose modes of transportation other than cars.
 

Public transit

LPU – Laissez-passer universitaire (public transit pass for university students)

If you are a full-time student in a regular program or an exchange student, you are eligible for the Laissez-passer universitaire (LPU). This pass provides unlimited access to bus services operated by the Réseau de transport de la Capitale (RTC) and the Société de transport de Lévis (STLévis) during the autumn and winter semesters.

OPUS card

If you are a part-time student and are not eligible for the LPU, or during the summer semester, you can use the OPUS card to load RTC and STLévis public transit passes.

To obtain an OPUS card, visit an RTC or STLévis service centre . There, you can have your photo taken, load your passes, and pay for them.

The RTC and STLévis offer various payment options for using public transit.

  1. You can pay in cash each time you travel, providing you have the exact fare, as bus drivers cannot give change.
  2. You can purchase tickets to load onto an OPUS card or an occasional card.
  3. If you take the bus regularly, you might want to buy a monthly pass.

You can purchase tickets or a pass using your smartphone with the RTC Nomade Payment app .

Visit the transit companies’ websites to find out the current fares and the routes that serve your area.

Please note that RTC buses only serve the North Shore (Québec City). To travel to the South Shore (Lévis), you must use the bus services provided by STLévis or the Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ) ferry services.

If you are a student who is also a parent, as defined by the Politique relative aux étudiantes et étudiants parents de l’Université Laval, and are enrolled part-time (6 to 11 credits), you can take advantage of the LPU by having your status as a student parent recognized.

Regular public transit services are becoming increasingly accessible, and the infrastructure recently built on campus meets high universal design standards. Check the accessibility information for the RTC and STLévis for more details about their services.

Bicycle

The services and infrastructure available to cyclists make it easy for you to use a bike for your trips. Visit the campus services website to learn more about:

The university campus is crisscrossed by pedestrian paths and underground walkways. These allow you to move easily and safely from one pavilion to another, whatever the season. Visit the campus services website to view, among other things:

Getting around by car

Parking at Université Laval

If you hold a driver’s licence issued outside of Québec and it is valid and authorizes you to drive, you may drive a car in Québec for the duration of your studies without holding a Québec driver’s licence. However, you must comply with the conditions specified on your licence. Please also note that a specific licence is required to ride a motorcycle.

If your driver’s licence is not written in French or English, it is strongly recommended that you obtain an “International Driving Permit” (IDP). You must apply for this permit in the country where you obtained your driver’s licence. Remember to always carry your driver’s licence with your international driving permit.

If you do not have a driver’s licence and would like to obtain one, contact the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) to find out what steps to take. The SAAQ is a government agency that oversees vehicle registration, driver’s licences, driving tests, traffic regulations, and traffic accidents.
