A secure conversational agent

A protected version of Copilot is available to all students, administrative staff, faculty, and teaching staff through ULaval’s Microsoft 365 licence.

Copilot is a conversational agent that can be used for a variety of tasks:

  • Generating content (text, code, images, etc.)
  • Translating text
  • Suggesting phrasing
  • Synthesizing information
  • Analyzing complex data

Accessing Copilot

To use Copilot, you must log in with your ULaval account. The login credentials are the same as those usually used for our digital environment. To log in, use your <IDUL@ulaval.ca> email address and the password associated with it.

Caution: Using Copilot without logging in goes against Université Laval’s confidentiality and data protection standards.

Copilot can be accessed through the following login methods:

Your data is protected

When using Copilot through ULaval’s Microsoft 365 licence, you benefit from data protection. Your data, such as the prompts and documents you submit, are protected, which means they cannot be accessed by Microsoft or the University and are not used to train AI models. Furthermore, Copilot has no access to the contents of your Microsoft 365 account, such as your emails and documents, nor to data owned by the university.

This protection ensures that your data is not exposed to the general public and will not be retrieved and used by others. Other solutions may not protect your data, or may use your data to train an AI model.

Make sure the  “Protected” badge bouclier-copilot.png or protege-bouton  is displayed next to your profile icon and name before getting started. It confirms that the protection is activated. Note that the icon may appear translucent and without a check mark.

Your history is stored

When you log in with your ULaval account, Copilot keeps your conversation history until you delete it. These conversations remain available even if you click “new topic”, close the browser window, or refresh the page.

You are the only person who can access your conversation history in Copilot.

Keeping digital sobriety in mind , remember to delete conversations that are no longer useful.

Verify the usage is is authorized

While Copilot is available to all Université Laval students aged 18 and over, that does not imply that it’s use is authorized by default.

Authorization to use AI tools in courses must always be validated with the instructor responsible for the course. It is the student’s responsibility to check the course syllabus to see which uses are authorized, if any. Unauthorized use may result in disciplinary measures, as stipulated in the disciplinary regulations for Université Laval students (PDF, in French only).
