A comprehensive approach to environmental conservation

The Integrated Bachelor’s Degree in Natural and Managed Environments trains students to collaborate with a wide range of partners and to propose viable, science-based solutions for the conservation and sustainable management of natural environments.

A focus on integration and collaboration with the community

The program is built on two main pillars — forestry and biology — and is complemented by courses in economics, ethics, and sociopolitics, providing an informed perspective of the environment as a whole.

The first years of the program provide students with a knowledge base in various fields and introduce them to the use of geographic information systems (GIS) as a tool for integrating diverse environmental data. Students can also tailor their academic experience in an environment-related field via 26 elective credits and international study internships.

In the final year, the knowledge acquired is applied through a conservation or integrated land-use planning project, carried out in teams, to address the actual needs of a municipality. This collaborative work with stakeholders in the field (ministries, municipalities, non-profits, etc.) allows students to work on concrete cases, promoting both learning and professional integration. Over the years, many student projects have been completed, such as the development of trails highlighting the natural beauty of Orléans Island and ecological restoration initiatives.

An adaptable, committed, and connected new generation

By exposing students to a variety of contexts and emphasizing a strong practical component, this program trains adaptable individuals capable of working collaboratively to bring together diverse perspectives from different disciplines and society. Offered since 2010, the program is constantly evolving to incorporate emerging themes such as ecological restoration and Indigenous perspectives on the land.

The program is also distinguished by the close ties it maintains with its graduates, who are now active in a wide variety of settings: provincial and federal governments, municipal administrations, NGOs, consulting firms, academic research, and more. This ongoing connection to the field of practice enriches the program by grounding it firmly in professional reality, while strengthening ties between the University and the professional community.
