Addressing global challenges through education
In the face of global challenges that transcend borders and disciplines, a new educational approach is needed to prepare the next generation to understand the complexity of our world and take effective action.
Interdisciplinarity at the heart of the learning experience
Focused on key issues rather than on a single discipline, the master’s and doctoral programs at the Graduate School of International Studies (ESEI) foster the integration of an entire ecosystem of knowledge, resulting in a more comprehensive and holistic understanding of these issues. Decidedly interdisciplinary, these programs combine law, economics, management and political science with other disciplines such as geography, agronomy or history to address the multifaceted nature of issues such as international security, international development, international trade, humanitarian law, the environment, and the international economy.
This interdisciplinary approach is reflected in the courses and seminars taught by faculty members from various departments, in real-world simulations, as well as in opportunities for joint supervision with recognized European universities and internships with international and government organizations. Together, these experiences enrich the students’ educational experience by placing them at the heart of real-world issues and exposing them to a variety of contexts and approaches.
In-demand graduates with versatile skillsets
The programs also foster the development of cross-disciplinary professional skills sought after by international organizations, governments, and the private sector. In particular, a course in interdisciplinary research methodology is offered in all programs, while integrative seminars support the development of skills such as critical thinking, scientific communication in an interdisciplinary context, and knowledge mobilization.
As a result, graduates of these programs stand out for their ability to navigate across disciplines and propose well-informed solutions to complex challenges. This versatility makes them particularly sought-after in fields as diverse as diplomacy, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), international organizations, and private companies operating internationally.
A dynamic and interconnected learning environment
Students also benefit from a dynamic learning environment, driven by thematic research chairs and centres, as well as research groups affiliated with ESEI. These spaces for formal and informal exchange foster collaborative learning, self-reflection, the development of professional networks, and integration into the scientific community.
