The impact of Sentinel North training
A survey conducted between 2021 and 2024 among 349 Sentinel North alumni revealed the tangible benefits of their participation in the training program for their professional development and their interdisciplinary research capacity. These results are a testament to the full extent of Sentinel North’s commitment to training a new generation of interdisciplinary scientists, a concrete and lasting legacy of the program whose impact they will feel throughout their career.

Sentinel North conducted a survey among its graduates to assess the level of satisfaction with regard to their participation in the training program and the impact it has had on their personal and professional development.
The online survey was conducted by a third party on behalf of Sentinel North among former program participants four to eight months after graduation or after the end of their participation. It was carried out in six rounds between June 2021 and May 2024.
The main objectives of the survey were the following:
- Assess their level of satisfaction with regard to the program
- Assess their level of satisfaction with regard to the program
- Collect data on their employment prospects after participating
The results also yielded information on the experiences and opinions of former participants, including the benefits of their participation and the challenges associated with the interdisciplinary nature of their research projects.
The report presents the aggregated results of the survey. A total of 175 people responded to the survey, for a response rate of 50.1%.
Population
A person was regarded as having participated in the Sentinel North training program if they were declared as being a member of a research team supported by Sentinel North, if they worked on a research project directly supported by Sentinel North, or if they received a scholarship or salary while working on a project supported by Sentinel North.
The population of former participants and the distribution of respondents by year level and by faculty is presented in the detailed report. The distribution of respondents generally corresponds to that of the population of former participants. As such, no weighting of the survey results was done.
