Merit scholarship program
The Ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur (MES) offers scholarships to international students for graduate programs, postdoctoral fellowships, and short-term research or professional development visits.

Merit scholarships for international students
These merit scholarships are designed to support the internationalization of research activities in Québec’s higher education institutions in order to attract the best international students. The program, administered by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et technologies (FRQNT), is divided into 4 components.
Master’s scholarships worth $20,000 per year for a maximum of 2 years.
Doctoral scholarships worth $25,000 per year for a maximum of four years.
Postdoctoral scholarships worth $35,000 for one year, non-renewable.
Scholarships for university students and researchers worth $3,000 per month for a maximum of 4 months.

Instructions for the pre-selection process for the 2027–2028 competition
The 2027-2028 competition is over.
The FRQ will only invite candidates who have been pre-selected by a Québec university to apply for the final competition for this program. The results of the internal competition will be announced in late September.
Applications for the pre-selection process must be endorsed by a faculty member who agrees to mentor the candidate and supervise their research.
