Honorary Doctorate in Pharmacy
Albert Falardeau is a pharmacist and entrepreneur who has had a profound influence on the development of community pharmacy in Québec. A pharmacist owner since 1975, he is recognized for his long-term vision that combines professional independence, organizational innovation, and sustained commitment to social engagement.
As a member of the Familiprix group since its creation and its president since 2000, Albert Falardeau has helped build a unique model within Québec’s pharmaceutical landscape, centred on pharmacists’ autonomy and independence, availability for patients and the primacy of clinical practice. He is a fervent advocate of this business model.
Albert Falardeau has played a key role throughout his career in the development and structuring of pharmaceutical services at the regional, provincial and national levels. Under his leadership, Familiprix has become a major innovator in community pharmacy by establishing central facilities for processing and distributing prescriptions, being early adopters of digital tools to improve access to care, and developing specialty software.
Albert Falardeau has also been actively involved in training the next generation and in efforts to bring the academic milieu and professional practice closer together, notably serving as the first president of Familiprix’s professional training centre in 1996. Through the Fondation Familiprix he founded, Mr. Falardeau was instrumental in the creation of the Chaire de leadership en enseignement Familiprix en pharmacie communautaire at Université Laval. This has led to the development of innovative teaching approaches, strengthening the work skills of students and contributing to the continuous improvement of the quality of care provided to the public.
Albert Falardeau’s longstanding social engagement, notably through a partnership of more than 30 years with Enfant Soleil, as well as his leadership in sustainable development and social responsibility, attest to a journey guided by strong human values and a keen sense of the common good.
Université Laval is pleased to award an honorary doctorate in pharmacy to Albert Falardeau in recognition of his major impact on the pharmaceutical profession, his crucial contribution to the training of the next generation of pharmacists, and his enduring commitment to Québec society.
