Federal tax

New for the 2019 tax year

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has notified universities that they will have to include students’ Social Insurance Number (SIN) on the T2202 (formerly T2202A) tax slip.

  • T2202 Form (Tuition and Enrolment Certificate)
    • Postdoctoral fellows do not receive the T2202 form.
  • Charitable donation receipt (for the amount donated to Université Laval)

Provincial tax

  • RL-8 Slip (amount for post-secondary studies)
    • The amount for full-time post-secondary studies is based on the number of semesters that you started and completed in the year.
    • No amount for post-secondary studies is allocated to part-time students and medical residents.
    • Postdoctoral fellows do not receive the RL-8 Slip.

Where to enter your social insurance number (SIN)

You must enter your social insurance number (SIN) from your student record in Capsule under Renseignements sur les études et droits de scolarité > Formulaires fiscaux. Once you have entered your SIN is submitted, it takes 24 hours for the tax slips to become available.

How to get your tax slips

Tax slips are made available on February 28.

Your social insurance number (SIN) must have been provided for your tax slips to be accessible.

You can print the slips from your student record in Capsule under Renseignements sur les études et droits de scolarité > Formulaires fiscaux.

Change of address

You can update your contact information in your student file in Capsule under Renseignements personnels.

International students

Go to the Student Life Office (BVE) website for more information about Québec and Canadian income tax. The site explains in which you may need to file an income tax return and provides tools to help you do so.

Eligible expenses

The following are the main eligible expenses:

  • Tuition fees
  • Ancillary, administration, technological and academic modernization fees
  • Activity fees
  • Faculty investment fund
  • Admission fees

An official tax receipt is issued for contributions to Université Laval.

To be entitled to these eligible expenses, you must have paid over $100 in tuition.
