A urologist by training, Professor Mireille Grégoire has made a significant contribution to the continuous improvement of medical education. Her sustained commitment to academic leadership and professional practice has left a lasting mark on the field of medicine in Quebec and across Canada.

Recognized expertise in urology

After completing her medical studies at McGill University, Professor Grégoire specialized in urology at Université de Montréal before undertaking a research fellowship in urologic oncology at Harvard University. In 1993 she joined Université Laval, where she developed expertise in functional urology, with a particular focus on pelvic pain. A pillar of the Department of Surgery's urology section, she led the urology program for six years, making a lasting contribution.

A prolific clinician and researcher, Professor Grégoire is the author of 15 scientific papers, one book chapter, and more than 50 scholarly publications. She served for many years on the scientific committees of the journal Progrès en urologie and the Journal of the Canadian Urological Association. Her expertise has also been sought in more than 70 clinical studies as a principal or associate investigator.

Advancing medical training and practice

Professor Grégoire, who has always shared her knowledge with passion—passing it on to future generations of physicians through specialized clinical courses, as a simulation workshop instructor, and in her daily work with urology residents. She has distinguished herself through her major influence on the evolution of medical training. As Vice-Dean for Postdoctoral Studies in Medicine, she has spearheaded numerous innovations in the Faculty of Medicine, including the introduction of electronic evaluations for residency rotations. 

Beyond Université Laval, she has been deeply involved in academic and professional governance for more than 20 years. She has served on several committees of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, both within her specialty and as Vice Dean, and on the board of directors of the Collège des médecins du Québec. She has also contributed to several of its committees, including the editorial committee for the review of legal, ethical, and organizational matters; the medical studies and accreditation committee, the admission to practice committee; the disciplinary council; and the professional inspection committee. Through this sustained involvement, she has had a major impact on the medical profession in Quebec. 

Professor Grégoire was invited to chair the Conférence des vice-doyens aux études médicales postdoctorales du Québec, where she played a pivotal role in harmonizing and improving medical education standards cross the province. She has also been actively involved in the accreditation process for residency programs of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, conducting more than 20 evaluation and accreditation visits at medical faculties across the country. 

She has frequently been called upon to provide expert advice on medical policy and practice, notably as a participant in the Table de concertation sur les effectifs médicaux of the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux du Québec. 

Professor Grégoire continues to contribute to medical practice management and teaching as a member of the appeals committee of the Medical Council of Canada and as an instructor for first-year medical students.

Through her leadership in urology and her unwavering commitment to excellence in education and patient care, Professor Grégoire leaves a lasting legacy at Université Laval and within the wider Canadian medical community.
