Training and research internships

Before submitting your admission and registration form, review the training and research internships section online, in particular the eligibility criteria.

You can do this type of internship by invitation from a Université Laval professor who agrees to oversee you and supervise your project. You will be admitted as a visiting student.

Admission and registration

Upon your arrival at UL, go to your host institute, faculty, department, school, or research centre. Bring your signed and completed Admission and Registration for a Research Internship (REG-175a-AD) (PDF) form.

Once you have agreed to the terms of your training with the host unit, contact the Registrar’s Office to complete admission and registration procedures. Be sure to have the following documents:

If you are not a citizen or permanent resident of Canada, you must also submit the following documents:

  • a temporary resident visa (if applicable)
  • a work permit or a visitor record (if applicable)
  • a passport

All international students and interns are automatically covered by the mandatory health and hospitalization insurance plan from the moment of registration. This coverage supersedes all other personal insurance plans.

If everything is in order, you will be officially admitted and registered within two to five business days. You will then receive an email informing you about your Université Laval ID numbers and the availability of your student ID.

You must register every semester throughout your internship depending on the length of your stay, for a maximum of a year (12 months). Registration to Université Laval health and hospitalization insurance plan offered by Desjardins Insurance is also renewable each semester depending on the length of your stay.
