Pan-Canadian AI Compute Environment (PAICE)
Université Laval will host the first national specialized computing infrastructure to support AI research and innovation.
The PAICE project is part of the Government of Canada’s $125 million Pan-Canadian AI Strategy. The project aims to acquire 3 new computing systems designed for and dedicated to AI research.
Université Laval has received a total of $21 million in funding from the governments of Canada and Québec to host the first AI computing cluster. The cluster, named TamIA, Enables the development and training of large language models (LLMs) or machine learning models, thanks to its large memory capacity.
PAICE will open new doors for cutting-edge research in many fields, including medicine, pharmacy, robotics, computer vision, and architecture. The development of AI models can be applied to almost any field of research. For example, they might lead to developing new translation tools or discovering new drugs.
