Shaping the future, together
I am delighted to begin my first term as rector of Université Laval. A globally oriented institution, UL is a major teaching and research university recognized for its leadership, creativity, and expertise.
My management team and I plan to consolidate the university's achievements and foster a climate of innovation and change that further enhances our standing in Québec, the rest of Canada, and around the globe. We will be guided by three watchwords: excellence, experience, and engagement. We are determined to maintain Université Laval's reputation for research and teaching excellence, enrich the experience of our students, employees, and partners, and support community engagement by actively working together to help find solutions to the pressing societal issues of our time.
Education is the bedrock of a society's prosperity and wealth, not only in the economic or financial sense, but also in human terms, because it underpins a forward-looking vision that strives for justice, truth, fairness, creativity, and human dignity. Université Laval is a privileged conveyor of this vision, which encourages us to take a new look at our teaching and research mission and our role in the broader community. As an institution and as members of the university community, we must exercise our freedoms and responsibilities with an eye to our collective goal of successfully accomplishing the UL mission. My first thought is for our students' education, at every stage of life. Called upon to be responsible citizens and contribute concretely to a complex and evolving society, they will always be able to count on their university.
Together, we will continue our efforts to have UL recognized as the most international of French-language universities, notably by implementing a bold, integrated internalization strategy. To do so, we will draw upon our collective intelligence.
Together, we will fashion an institution in touch with today's realities, embrace ambition and excellence, and work as a team in Québec City, in Québec, in Canada, and around the world. Together, we can make the future happen as we embody UL Excellence, Experience, and Engagement.
